Ellis Island...

Our little trip to Ellis Island started off in the POURING rain, it was so grey and wet - it really made me think about all those immigrants, traveling to America for the first time in the miserable weather, after weeks and weeks aboard a packed boat...

The ferry takes you past the Statue of Liberty, that must have been an amazing sight, the first thing that the travelers would have seen was this beacon of hope and freedom.

We had an audio tour of the main building - it was so fascinating hearing all the stories and hearing about all the tests you were subjected to upon your arrival. All the questioning and waiting reminded me of when I had to go to the Embassy for my visa - nothing's changed really!

By the time we were getting back on the boat to back to Manhattan it was a beautiful afternoon.
