After driving back to Lynchburg, we checked into our hotel and then drove 10 minutes down the road (well, motorway) to Downtown Nashville. We parked near a big concert hall and by the Country Music Hall of Fame which are a few blocks away from Broadway, which is the 'main drag'.
We stopped off by the Walk of Fame on our way to Broadway, it was a wee bit dark and there weren't any lights but we managed to find stars for Les Paul, The Crickets, Kings of Leon and Jimi Hendrix (amongst lots of others)...
Then we found our way onto Broadway, which was FULL of music venues, records shops, BBQ spots and shops selling boots and cowboy hats...
It was really busy with live music and tipsy people spilling out of every bar and a delicious smell of BBQ in the air which was making us very hungry.
About halfway down Broadway was the Hatch Show Print shop and museum.
About halfway down Broadway was the Hatch Show Print shop and museum.
Hatch Show made (and still do make) all the posters for the musicians coming into town - they have a beautiful blocky letterpress style with bold, simple colours. A lot of people try and replicate their style now, but they're the originals who started it all. Unfortunately the shop was closed, but we could peer through the windows and have a look at the big wall FULL of brilliant posters...
If we ever make it back to Nashville (and I really hope we do) I'd love to go on the tour around the shop and see how they make the posters - they look fantastic.
All this mooching, and the smell of BBQ in the air was making us very hungry so we went to go and some ribs - the only problem was, how would we decided which of the million BBQ places to go to?
