Miami – Day Two...

The weather on Sunday was just dreadful...

We went to a nice little place on the corner for some Miami eggs benedict and steak and eggs and sat people watching,  looking at all the people driving up and down in their old bangers...

Then, after some delicious eggs we went to explore Ocean Drive a bit. All around Miami they have these great little bike stations full of bikes for hire - I think they're the same as the Boris Bikes in London, and the kind of thing they're trying to introduce to New York - you can hire them from 30 minutes up to 24 hours and drop them off at any other bike depot. So we hired a couple of bikes for half an hour and pootled up and down the beach walk along Ocean Drive...

The walk way reminded me a LOT of Venice Beach, there were loads of cyclists, segwayers, skateboarders and rollerbladers going up and down, there were people working out on the beach, there were crazy people sitting and shouting at everyone, there were ALL sorts of people out and about enjoying the amazing weather and the fantastic surroundings.

I couldn't believe it was February - it felt so tropical! I know we were down in Florida and closer to the equator and everything, but it felt so alien to be somewhere like that in mid-February having just left the snow behind in Brooklyn. I think we could both get used to it!

After a little cycling we got in a taxi and headed over the bridge to the Miami Design District. The Design District was much quieter than the Art-Deco District (which was lovely) and was full of very bright white, very fancy shops like Prada and Chanel.

Sitting amongst all these crisp white shops was this...
A huuuuuuge Retna piece on the side of the Louis Vuitton shop - it looked great amongst all the other white shops. It felt like everything was white in the Design District, especially the fancy cars...

After a bit of mooching around we were feeling peckish so we went to a veeeeeeeery very tasty tacquira called Mercadito. Abi had looked it up before hand and it was supposed to serve some of the best tacos in Miami - and we weren't let down, they were delicious! We couldn't decided which ones to get, so we got a load of different ones and tried them all... the Mahi Mahi ones were the best!

The restaurant was really busy, it was obviously a popular spot - we managed to get a table outside by the jazz band and sat and enjoyed the music with a couple of drinks.

By the restaurant were a few big colourful sculptures...

We'd seen a couple of pieces like this in New York (there are some at the airport and some in Trump Plaza - all the classy places have them!). We saw LOADS of this artists stuff around Miami, it turns out it's someone called Romero Britto - I can only assume they live in Miami or something, but his stuff is everywhere!

After our tacos had gone down we went off and headed back towards Wynwood, we had a lot more photos we wanted to take of all the other street art around there...
