Miami – Day One...

When we left New York on Saturday morning it was snowing. It was grey, cold and snowing, but three hours later, we were welcomed with this...

Sun, sand and palm trees in Miami!

We had a very interesting cab ride from Miami Airport to our hotel... the taxi driver had some fairy lights hanging from the ceiling of the cab, and we made the mistake of complimenting him on his interior decorating. That led to a 30 minute monologue about how the government don't like him decorating his taxi - how he does seasonal themes on his dashboard and how he dresses up as Elvis, Michael Jackson and Elton John... just when we thought he finished talking he carried on with more stories about all the celebrities he's had in the back of his taxi, and how he almost ran over Rod Stewart.

I think Abi and I managed to get in about 5 words total in the whole 'conversation' and one of two of those were 'Thank You' when he dropped us off. He was a proper Miami character - very colourful.

Anyway, we arrived at our hotel, the Kent Hotel, a lime greeny art-deco building just round the corner from Ocean Drive in the art-deco district. We checked into our room and went off to get some holiday drinks, Abi just went for a very small, subtle Strawberry Daiquiri...

Which she needed a wee bit of help with...

Then after a delicious little smackral, we wobbled over to the beach to have a look at the turquoise sea...

We couldn't believe that just a few hours ago we were waking up in cold Brooklyn, wrapping up warm and now we were walking along the beach, surrounded by palm trees and in the beautiful sunshine.
