Faile Totem...

A few weeks ago I mentioned the street artist/s Faile and their big wall mural down on Houston and Bowery - and how there was supposed to be a little wooden Totem pole next to the wall...

Well, their mural's now gone in Manhattan, but when I was mooching about Williamsburg yesterday afternoon I stumbled, completely by accident, one of their wooden totems!

It was about 4 feet tall, all carved out of wood - like an old telegraph pole or something - and hand painted...

The top was all intricately carved too...

I love it when you just stumble across stuff from walking around - especially things that you really don't expect to see. I think I see some to the most exciting sites when I'm just mooching about without any proper reason, or anywhere in particular to go...

It's sometimes just nice to get a bit lost and see where you end up.

Out & About...

I was mooching around Williamsburg yesterday afternoon...

We Loved Cape Cod!

We can't wait to go back there some very day soon!

You've Got Mail...

Provincetown...

Our final stop along our roadtrip was at the very tip of Cape Cod - another little place right by the sea, called Provincetown.

The road that leads into Provincetown is right by the beach, with only little beach huts and motels in between the road and the sand - it felt just like Jersey, driving along the quiet roads looking out at the water (keeping my eyes on the road most of the time though!).

We pulled over and parked up outside a deserted motel, and went for a little stroll on the sand...

There wasn't a soul in sight!

The rest of the of the drive into the tow was rather colourful...

Apparently Provincetown is very popular with artists and gay people - and artistic gay people by the looks of this garage!

As you drive further into the town, the roads get narrower and then become one way streets where you have to weave through the pedestrians and cyclists to reach the car park.

The car park was right on the water front, near all the little boats, and had a fantastic view across the bay...
The town felt very seasidey - I don't know what it is, but you can always tell you're right by the sea (not just because you can see the sea!), there's a certain air about the place... I love it.

There were lots of little shops and restaurants around the town, all selling bits and pieces, some selling sweets, some selling tacky souvenirs, some selling art...

Others with legs hanging out the windows!
There were some more of those lovely big, wooden slatted houses too...

We were getting VERY hungry by the time we had reached Provincetown, with little success getting our sandwich in Sandwich, we'd set our hopes on getting some delicious seafood somewhere in town. We had a look around and looked at some menus and decided on this place...

The Lobster Pot. It looked like a tiny little place from the outside, and nothing too special really - but you walked in and then went upstairs and the whole place opened up into a big dining room with amazing views across the bay.

We were very lucky and were giving the best seats in the house, a little table right at the front windows looking out onto the little beach and all the boats - it was perfect.

It seemed like a really popular place too, so we must have picked the right spot - and the menu was FULL of seafood too. Abi had blackened shrimp for starters and then a huge seafood paella, and I had a lobster cocktail thing and then a big fried fish platter... it was all SO delicious and you could tell it was all fresh. It was amazing.

It was lovely to hear locals talking in the restaurant, and then to hear holiday makers talking, there was a great mix of ages too - the couple behind us were celebrating their wedding anniversary, I think it might have been their 50th!

It was a fantastic little find with a wonderful atmosphere, I'm so glad we decided to go in as it was the perfect way to end our little road trip adventure.

A bit later, very full on seafood, we along the little beach to the car park ready to head back to Boston. The sun was just beginning to go down, so all the twinkly lights outside the restaurants and houses were coming on... it looked beautiful.

We got in the car and started driving back along the coast road - carefully looking out for any turtles...

As we drove back we could see the sun setting in the wing-mirrors as we set off on the 150 mile return drive to Boston. It was all so perfect - the whole day was just amazing. We absolutely loved driving around and exploring new places - we were talking about our next road trip on the drive back... I can't wait!

Sandwich...

The next town along our route was another tiny place called Sandwich.
Our original plan was to find a tasty sandwich in sandwich - as it was around lunch time, but unfortunately the place we stopped wasn't quite what we were hoping for...

It was a weird mini diner for dwarfs!

So we just had a drink and carried on exploring the area. It was a funny little place - another cluster of shops along one main street, with lots of houses dotted around. The main strip had a bank, a petrol station and cafe, a hair dressers, a fire station, a police station...

A little bit further down the road were a few more shops, and another place that we'd hoped to get sandwiches - but we were in the market for Lobster Rolls, and this place didn't have what we were after. It did however had some lovely fish shaped chairs for sale...

So after mooching around, filling up with petrol and having a nice chat with the man at the petrol station, we carried on our adventure, along Route 3 towards Provincetown.

On The Road Again...

On Saturday morning we headed out on the road with our little Zipcar for a Cape Cod adventure...

Our first stop was a little place called Cohasset, about 35 minutes drive from Boston. We hadn't been driving for long before we got distracted by this old looking Dunkin Donuts...

This was where the first Dunkin Donuts shop was! I had no idea they originated in Boston - that would explain why there's a donut called the Boston Creme and why there seems to be more Dunkin Donuts than Starbucks in Boston... they're everywhere!

After our first little pitstop, we carried on towards Cohasset...

We decided not to take the big main roads and motorways (or freeways), all the smaller country roads were far more beautiful and interesting. All the trees looked so lush and colourful.

Cohasset is a very pretty little town (more like a village really), with one little main high street, full of red slatted buildings, little shops, cafes, bakery's and estate agents...

It was so calm and peaceful and the houses looked beautiful in the sun, with the blossom on the trees,it reminded me a little bit of Jersey...

After a little walk around we jumped back in the car and carried on along the road. All the houses in the area were so bright and cheery and well maintained, with their big lawns and blossom trees. It felt like something out of a film.

There seemed to be loads of Little League games on - nearly every child we saw was wearing a team uniform and was either on their way to the playing field, on the playing field, or just leaving having played their baseball game.

People were out cutting their grass or washing their old Corvettes - it all felt a bit surreal really, a little too perfect...

There were lots of bright white wood chapels too, like this one...

There was this rather grand looking castle-like tower right behind it too...

The whole area was just so beautiful, and we were Ooohing and Aaaaahing over every house we saw. As we drove on distance between the houses grew, as did people's gardens, some of the houses were really set back from the road with huge long drive ways leading up to them, other were tucked away in the trees...

They were all so picturesque (but it felt very quiet... there weren't many people about).

We carried on the little country roads, passing little houses and little shops, like this little general store...

I love the old American sign... I imagine it's still the original sign from when they opened!
It was such a perfect day for driving around and exploring.
Next stop... Sandwich!
