Another place on our Philly hit-list was the Franklin Fountain!
We'd seen the Franklin Fountain on the same programme that had DiNic's - and we'd thought it looked like the kind of place that Abi should definitely go, it's an old fashioned ice cream parlor that does aaaaaaall sorts of different sundaes and cones and banana splits and coke floats.
It was in a lovely part of Philadelphia, passed the grotty bit, and in a lovely area with lots of old fashioned buildings and shops in. There was a bit of a long queue when we arrived, it went right out the door and two shops down the road - but it was well worth the wait.
Going inside felt like going back in time...
The old utensils and appliances were fantastic - and it looked like they used a few of them, so they weren't just for show. The people working there wore old fashioned shirts and waistcoats and the owner (who wasn't there, but was on the telly programe) has a big twiddley mustache.
They had a little dresser with all the cordials on, they had loads of different flavours for all the milkshakes, all in beautiful old looking glass bottles. They had the syrups for the soft drinks too, they were in nice glass bottles too with the brand names hand painted on the bottles. They were lovely.
It was hard to choose from the menu, but we'd seen a sundae on the telly called Mount Vesuvius - a volcano made out of ice cream and chocolate brownies with malt dust and whipped cream...
I was lucky enough to be allowed to try a bit... only a bit though! It was delicious.
I had a rather large coke float (with a paper straw!)
