In the evening the three of us went up to the roof for a little July 4th BBQ in the sun...
We had beers, kebabs, hot dogs, chicken wings and some green stuff (I think they call it salad?)...
The weather was perfect! I had been forecast for thunderstorms, but it was the most beautiful evening. It was still blummin' hot, but it wasn't too bad up on the roof. We just sat back, listened to some music and enjoyed our grub as the sun went down behind Manhattan...
It wasn't long after the sun started disappearing that people started setting off fireworks. We could see bursts of fireworks going off pretty much all the way around us. Some over by the projects, some over near Prospect Park, some nearer Manhattan, some right over our heads thanks to our skateboarding neighbours!
What we really wanted to see though were the Macy's July 4th Fireworks. Each year so far we've gone to Manhattan to try and get close enough to the river to see them. Each time we've had a pretty good view, weaving through the crowds and buildings to see one of the four simultaneous displays.
I wasn't sure whether we'd actually be able to see them from our roof, it's only about 6 stories high, and the fireworks were on the complete opposite side of Manhattan to us, they must have been about 10 miles away. However, none of that mattered because at 9.30pm the fireworks started and we could see EVERYTHING!

We could see all four displays, with the Empire State Building on the skyline all lit up in red, white and blue. It was amazing - we had the best view!
The fireworks went on for about 20 minutes, it was non-stop Ooohing and Aaaahing, they looked spectacular, even from this distance... and the best bit was, we didn't have any crowds to contend with, when they were all over we just went downstairs to the apartment!
It was an absolutely perfect July 4th - by far the best yet!
