It's a tradition in Brooklyn that when some dies due to a bicycle road accident, a 'ghost bike' is then placed as memorial for them. The bikes are painting completely in white and covered in flowers.
It feels very strange every time I see one - it's incredibly sad to know that there was a fatal accident that happening it that spot (it's also incredibly sad with just how often you see one), but I think it's a lovely and fitting tribute to use a bike as the memorial.
