New Mastersounds...

On Saturday night Ben and I went to Irving Plaza to see Leeds funk band, New Mastersounds!

Ben has seen them play a few times at The Wardrobe in Leeds and I had seen them at the Across The Tracks festival a few years ago, so it was quite surreal to be seeing them playing in New York, and just round the corner from work too.

We had a bit of time to kill before they came on stage, so we made a little tour of the pubs nearby, some that we knew and some that were new. It was pretty mild outside and it had stopped raining so it was nice to stand outside with our drinks without wearing a jacket. It's getting much warmer now.

We got to the Irving Plaza just in time to see the New Mastersounds come on stage, and for the next 90 minutes they played amazingly...

They sounded just like their records - the guitarist was fantastic and the drummer was great too, actually they were all pretty bloody great musicians.

The band seemed really happy to be there, and kept saying that it was their biggest New York crowd yet - the crowd seemed to be absolutely loving it too, everyone was dancing away.

It was so funny to think that they'd come all the way from Leeds, and now they were in New York - it made the world feel pretty tiny that evening.

I'm really hoping that they come back and play again soon, I know they've played in Brooklyn a few times - so fingers crossed. They were brilliant.
