Super Bowl Sunday...

Last night we had a little super bowl party at our apartment. We borrowed the projector from work, and bought a load of snacks and settled in for the 4 hour advertfest with football inbetween.

The party almost got off to a bad start when Abi and I locked ourselves out of the apartment 30 minutes before people were coming, but luckily our Land Lady lives a couple of stops away on the train so she was able to come round and let us in... phew!

We spend most of Saturday preparing stuff, getting Superbowl platters and the projector set up and Abi made her secret recipe special sauce for the chicken wings...

In the end, there were 6 of us - we didn't really know how many people were coming so we had rather a LOT of food in the end, but there was lots of nice stuff. Amelia brought a monsterous 7-layer dip and Laura brought some loaded potato skins - but the star of the show was our homemade scotch eggs (complete with runny yolks!)...

It was a fun night, and it was nice to have a little group of us watching together, none us really knowing what was going on but still shouting at the telly. One of the highlights of the game was the half time entertainmen,t provided by the Black Eyed Peas - with a (bizarrely random) guest appearance from Slash...

But the best bit of the whole night were the adverts. There ahd been almost as much hype leading up to last night about the adverts as for the game, agencies and companies spend ridiculous amounts of money for a spot during the Superbowl, millions and millions of dollars for a few seconds.

The best advert of the whole night was this BRILLIANT VW advert...

Abi and I had a great night, and I think everyone else did too - I think we might do it again sometime, especially if we end up with all the yummy leftovers!

The Greenbay Packers won by the way!

  1. Now was it really the dog that swung that advert for you? It's very funny and reminded me of you as a Ninja turtle...

  2. The advert is brilliant - unfortunatley we didn't get adverts on the BBC. I've tried to understand what they're doing, but struggled to watched most of it on fast forward this evening. The Americans sure do know how to put on a SPECTACLE. The Black Eyed Peas' performance was something - the lights and atmosphere looked incredible (reminded me of Daft Punk). Your party looks great fun, it's great that you've been there in the US to experience the Super Bowl live, along with the 100 Million other people that watched it last night. Some people in the office watched it live and were feeling rather sleepy for the whole day.

    Save us a scotch egg!!

  3. Looks as though your party was a hit! It felt funny watching some of the superbowl knowing you were watching the same thing. You'll have to have another party again soon, looks as though you and Abi are fab hosts!
