After playing in Rainbow City we went up to explore the latest section of the Highline to be completed.
They've recently opened some more of the park, so now it leads from the Meatpacking District (at around 10th Street?) all the way up to 30th Street. The new section of the park is just as beautiful and inspiring as the rest of it...
It feels a bit like they've gone with a little less path and a bit more grass in the new section - some areas of the path got quite narrow to make way for the beautiful flowers, trees and bushes...
There's one particular part of the new bit of the Highline that is elevated above the old railway, so it feels like you're doing one of those jungle canopy walks (sort of), walking up in the trees and looking down on the smaller plants. There were also little sections of the elevated path jetting out into the trees, with seating, so you can stop off the main path and just enjoy being surrounded by the greenery.
Some of the buildings up near 30th Street are fantastic and the new path runs right up to the walls of some fascinating architecture, from brand new glass and steel constructions, to old rickety looking houses, which looked like they could climb out of their windows onto the path.
The people who created the Highline are so clever, to be able to keep adding more sections and to keep creating something that feels unique, creating different areas within the park - almost like districts, just like Manhattan has different districts.
I loved the seating areas, you can't really tell, but there benches were at different heights, like the buildings surrounding the park, all at different heights and different sizes. It was a great place for people to stop and enjoy the evening sun.
The plants and flowers are just beautiful too...
The whole of the Highline is such an amazing place and the new section just makes it even more spectacular - we're so very lucky to have places like the Highline we can visit on sunny afternoons... I can't wait to see the next sections open up!
