Pedal Power...

Today has well and truly been a day for cycling. The weather was so perfect we couldn't not go out. So after my morning ride, Abi and I went out for an afternoon adventure on the road.

We found a place in Brooklyn called 'Ride Brooklyn' that rents bikes out for the whole day for a very good price, so Abi rented a nice little cruiser and I road mine around Brooklyn, stopping off to fuel up at Moo Burger for some lunch.

Moo Burger was a great place - it's a fairly new burger restaurant near Court Street. They have all sorts of burgers, all sorts of meat, all sorts of toppings and all sorts of tasty sides. Abi had a little Bison number with bacon and egg on top and I had one topped with mushrooms, caramilsed onions and blue cheese... they were mighty fine. Admittedly they're not in Shake Shack's league, but they were very tasty all the same, and perfect for a pre-pedaling pit-stop!

After lunch we made our way to the Manhattan Bridge and headed into town...

The views from the bridges are always so amazing - it's very hard not to stop and take hundreds of photos... if you do you just get shouted at by grumpy cyclists telling you it's not a great place to stop...?

Anyway, I did manage to take a quick photo of this very cheery water tower in Dumbo...

When we reached the other side of the bridge Miss Turner made a B-Line for the Prohibition Bakery, a very new (just opened) little bakery in SoHo.

The Prohibition Bakery sells little boozy cupcakes, although today they were (purely by chance) giving them away for free! All we had to do was let them take our photo 'enjoying' their cupcakes... so we were happy to oblige, scoffing a little white russian cupcake and trying not to show the photographer the contents of our mouths.

After our little cakes were started to head back towards the Williamsburg Bridge, heading Brooklyn-ward...

There were some amazing views from the Williamsburg Bridge too, like the old Domino Sugar Factory and all the graffitied buildings down under the bridge on the Brooklyn side. As we could stop on the bridge to take photos, we decided to go and investigate down under the bridge...

There was some great street art down there, like this big eye by JR...

and this old Shepard Fairey Obey Giant face...

After mooching around under the bridge we headed back towards the Bergen St. where the bike hire shop was... by the time we got there we were blummin' pooped and ready to drink a few gallons of water.

It was a really fun afternoon, and the weather couldn't have been more perfect for our Sunday bike ride - it was good exercise too, it was about 14 miles in all, so rode 24 miles today (my bum feels like it too!)... hopefully now the weather's becoming less humid, there'll be more of this perfect weather for more Sunday afternoon adventures. Fingers crossed.
