Mmuseumm...

I'd seen on a couple of people's Instagram feeds a perculiar place called the Mmuseumm, and after a little googling I found out that it was a art exhibition/museum down in Tribeca.

The 'museum' was actually an old service lift down Courtland Alley (just your run of the mill, New York alley, behind studios and restaurants). Two film makers had converted the lift into a gallery/exhibition space for people to come and discover and look around for free...

That's it - in it's entirety, barely big enough for both of us to stand in (and my head brushed the ceiling). With shelves running all the way round full of weird and wonderful artifacts. From personal items found in the pacific ocean, to home made weapons, to modified Russian watches, to a collection of toothpastes from around the world.

They were all things that had either been found, left behind in various places, or were on loan from people's odd collections (the weapons for example are someone's personal collection!)...

The weapons were bonkers! They were all some for of baseball/rounders bats with some deadly modification, like a buzz-saw blade, or a hammer head, or a padlock on the end of a thick chain - they were like modern day medieval bomiknockers!

Each item was numbered - you could either look up the number in a little leaflet they were selling for $1, or you could phone a free-phone number and type in the article reference and you'd hear the explanation behind it.

It was all so bizarre, but so brilliant - and all really well done - I think their logo's perfect...

The idea's so completely original and it feels like a proper secret spot when you stumble across it. There's just a girl sitting outside it making sure no-one runs off with the weapons. Other than that you're free to stroll up, take phones, spend as long as you like in there and go...

I'm not sure how long it'll be there for - but I'm very glad we found it!
