Last Day of Our Summer Holiday...

The past 2 weeks back at home have been absolutely amazingly brilliant, I loved every single day and now we're back, Abi and I are suffering from a bad bout of the holiday blues and have a case of homesickness...

It feels a bit funny being back in New York, it's a totally different world from the relaxing, tranquil and lusciously green surroundings of home. It was such a relaxing and peaceful couple of weeks, and now we're back in the bustling, busy and noisy city - but we love it, and we're quickly remembering all the things we love about living here.

The flight back was a bit rubbishy, the seats felt incredibly squished in and we didn't have telly's in the headsets, infact they didn't even show a film for the whole flight! They just showed lot of episodes of The Office and 30 Rock instead.

When we were in Manchester Airport we bumped into Anne, Steve and Max from round the corner - they were heading to New York too and it turned out that they were sitting just 4 rows infront of us on the plane.

Yesterday was our last day of holiday, we were feeling a bit tired and jet lagged but we didn't want to sit inside when it was so lovely and sunny, so we ventured out into Brooklyn. We had some boring bits and pieces to do, like a food shop and we needed some bits and pieces from Target, but while we were out we went and explored a new area - Atlantic Avenue.

Atlantic Avenue is a reeeeeally long road that runs through Brooklyn, it goes through posh bits and poorer bits and has lots of different shops and cafes all along it. We found a lovely little cafe (that was completely empty) to have a spot of lunch in. We went and sat in their little garden area and enjoyed the shade of a big tree while we had our sandwiches and a beer. It was lovely.

It was incredibly relaxing, and it was as close as we were going to get to sitting out in the garden at home (although there wasn't a fun rocking bench or any lovely bunting!).

If you're wondering what's in the bag, I'll tell you, it was our new housemate...

They're selling these little chaps exclusively in Target - they're great and apparently they glow in the dark (I've not been able to keep my eyes open long enough to check though).

ON the corner of Atlantic Avenue and Hoyt, I noticed this funny little sign...

There was also an amazing junk shop (which was incredibly expensive too) selling all sorts of fascinating objects, including so robots made out of old bits and pieces. I think I'll have to head back there and take some photos, it was like an Aladdins Cave.

It was a lovely relaxing last day of our summer holiday, I just wish I could have it all over again. However, now we're back at work we're already thinking about what our next little trip could be, maybe Atlantic City? We're looking for lots of fun and free things to do in the coming weeks to make the most of the amazing weather, so I'll keep you posted...
